Spambot prevention first draft
01 Sep 2006
I've had it with spam on my public IssueTrackerProduct instances like Demo Issue Tracker Now a new feature is being tested: Spambot prevention
If you enable this, at the bottom of the AddIssue form (and followup forms) you get a little extra question asking you to reproduce the numbers shown as images. Doing so doesn't require much brain but for a scripted robot it's going to be harder. Every number image have randomly generated names like xtq.gif for 4 and ws1.gif for 9 and these numbers are reshuffled every time you restart your Zope server. That makes it hellish for spambots to keep updated to be able to post junk via a script.
If you are a human being who's managed to enter the number in once, this fact is remember and you won't be asked to do it again for the duration of the session. If you can, in any way, log into Zope you won't neither be asked to prove that you're human.
It's currently being tested on the Demo Issue Tracker and will hopefully be included in the 0.7.3 release.
